Agroforestry is an integrated approach of using the interactive benefits from combining trees and shrubs with crops. It combines agricultural and forestry technologies to create more diverse, productive, profitable, healthy and sustainable land-use systems.

Here at Tibá we regularly hold intensive workshops with the Swiss-Bahian Forest Gardner Master Ernst Gotsch.

So what you see around us at Tibá is a work-in-progress of this system which, like anything organic, is constantly evolving. One recent change to the way Ernst teaches is to start using elongated beds as opposed to the older circular ones. This is is order to simplify the understanding of the nest system and how it relates to the path of the sun and shading etc. However most of the new nests we make around here are the circular type.

We are also currently simplifying our agroforestry systems. We have decreased the biodiversity for a higher production of around 5 crops. Staying away from the supermarket for good is our goal.

See the pages on the right for pics from each of the courses.
